Inspector Henderson says goodbye after 36 years!

After serving the people of Queensland for just under 36 years, Inspector Jo-Anne Henderson has decided to call it a day to be with those she holds most dear, her family. Inspector Henderson commenced her career with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) in 1980 as a Stenographer/Administrative Assistant at the Ipswich Police Station.

In 1988, Inspector Henderson took a short break from the QPS to undertake tertiary studies before returning in 1989 as an Administrative Assistant at Noosa Police Station.

On 23 July 1990, Inspector Henderson commenced at the Queensland Police Service Academy as a Probationary Constable and was sworn in as a Constable on 1 February 1991.

Inspector Henderson spent the first three years as a police officer on the Sunshine Coast where, in 1993, Inspector Henderson and her husband of 37 years, Peter, welcomed their daughter, Jessica. In 1994 the family moved to Brisbane after Inspector Henderson was promoted to Senior Constable at the QPSA PROVE Program. Two years later saw Inspector Henderson’s promotion to Sergeant at the QPSA FYC Program, followed by her promotion to Senior Sergeant as the Assistant to the Operations Coordinator at State Crime Operations Command in December 2000.  In 2006, Jo-Anne Henderson was promoted to the rank of Inspector and performed roles at Child Safety Investigation Group, Commissioner’s Office, Internal Witness Support and Riverside Patrol Group including as Superintendent at the Australian Institute of Police Management, NSW.

Inspector Henderson will be remembered for her vast contribution to recruit training, development of senior women and contribution in the child safety arena. Known for her caring, compassionate and supportive nature, as a leader, Inspector Henderson exemplified the QPS strategy, ‘Our People Matter’. Described by her staff as ‘an angel dressed in blue’, Inspector Henderson will be sorely missed by many who’ve had the fortune of meeting her throughout her distinguished career with the QPS. We wish Inspector Henderson and Peter, also a recently retired police officer, all the very best in their retirement.
